Precision Log Handling in Rugged Terrain

We are looking for a seasoned Tilter Hoe-Chuck Operator to join our mechanized logging crew. This is a high-production seat that requires a “safety-first” mindset and a deep understanding of excavator-based log movement. You’ll be responsible for hoe-chucking and staging wood in alignment with WorkSafeBC Part 26 and our strict company safety standards.

The Role

You aren’t just moving logs; you are managing the corridor. You will be responsible for:

  • Safe Log Movement: Moving logs in a controlled manner to prevent roll-outs, kickbacks, or uncontrolled movement.
  • Tilt-Head Management: Operating the tilt-head strictly within rated limits to avoid cylinder or pin failure.
  • Terrain Assessment: Assessing ground stability and maintaining safe machine positioning on steep or broken North Island ground.
  • Crew Coordination: Using positive radio communication to maintain a 300 ft (90 m) danger zone and coordinating with processors and bunchers to avoid conflict points.
  • Decking: Building stable log decks with solid bases to prevent shifting or sliding.

The HDL Package

  • Predictable Schedule: Monday to Friday day shifts.
  • Competitive Compensation: $44.11/hr plus a comprehensive Union Pension and benefits package.
  • Full Protection: Short-term and long-term disability, life insurance, and accidental death coverage.
  • Health & Wellness: Extended health, dental, vision, and an Employee Family Assistance Program (EFAP) to support you and your family.
  • Professional Environment: Work for a respected, SAFE Certified company that invests in its equipment and its people.
  • Great Schedule: Monday to Friday. No camp life—stay local and get home every night.
  • Career Growth: We take pride in training our crew. This is a great place to develop your skills in the logging industry.

What You Bring to the Cab

  • Proven Competency: Demonstrated experience in excavator-based log movement using a tilt-head.
  • Mechanical Knowledge: Ability to conduct full walk-around inspections, identifying leaks, cracked welds, or hydraulic drift.
  • Safety Awareness: Knowledge of Saw Chain Shot risks, exclusion zones, and the proper use of protective structures (FOPS/ROPS).
  • Safety Mindset: SAFE Certification standards are our baseline. Intermediate or Advanced First Aid is an asset
  • Communication: Expert radio protocol and the ability to work seamlessly with a ground crew and rigging team.
  • Certification: Valid company orientation and site-specific training (or the ability to pass our competency sign-off).
