Lead the Rock Work for Our Road Construction Crew
Holbrook Dyson Logging (HDL) is looking for a certified Driller Blaster to join our road-building team. As a SAFE Certified, “stump-to-dump” operation, we need a professional who can handle the technical demands of steep-slope drilling while maintaining absolute control over explosive safety and blast cordoning.
The Role
You will be the “Blaster in Charge,” overseeing the full cycle of rock excavation as outlined in our Safe Work Procedures.
- Drilling Precision: Operating drills on steep, uneven terrain. You’ll be responsible for safe mast setup, maintaining steady feed pressure, and monitoring for bit binding or ground instability.
- Blasting Safety: Loading and firing explosives in strict compliance with WorkSafeBC Part 21. You will establish and secure a 400-metre danger zone, coordinate spotters, and enforce “BLASTING – RADIO SILENCE”.
- Site Management: Conducting post-blast inspections for misfires or unstable rock before clearing the area for equipment to return.
- Communication: Issuing clear audio warnings (3 long blasts for warning, 1 for firing, 2 for all clear) and ensuring all personnel are accounted for.
The HDL Package
- Predictable Schedule: Monday to Friday day shifts.
- Competitive Compensation: $42.32/hr plus a comprehensive Union Pension and benefits package.
- Full Protection: Short-term and long-term disability, life insurance, and accidental death coverage.
- Health & Wellness: Extended health, dental, vision, and an Employee Family Assistance Program (EFAP) to support you and your family.
- Professional Environment: Work for a respected, SAFE Certified company that invests in its equipment and its people.
- Great Schedule: Monday to Friday. No camp life—stay local and get home every night.
- Career Growth: We take pride in training our crew. This is a great place to develop your skills in the logging industry.
What You Bring
- Certification: A valid WorkSafeBC or BC Energy, Mines and Petroleum Resources Blaster’s Certificate is required.
- Experience: Demonstrated competency in Coastal BC Forestry Road Building required.
- Safety Rigor: A deep understanding of explosive handling, storage, and misfire protocols.
- Safety Mindset: SAFE Certification standards are our baseline. Intermediate or Advanced First Aid is an asset
- Reliability: You are based in or reliably commuting to Campbell River, BC.
